Biography
Julio Pro has been involved in the arts since childhood, and besides his interest in the fine arts, he has earned a degree in music and an M.D. degree specializing in anesthesiology.
About seventeen years ago he again became serious about the fine arts and enrolled in night school at the California Art Institute in Los Angeles. This was a small school dedicated to train illustrators. They stressed the basics including strict discipline in drawing skills.
Besides this intensive training, he has also attended many workshops taught by Robert Abbett, Gary Carter, Ted Goerschner, and has spent much of his time studying with Neil Boyle.
He works in several media, including pencil, pastel, oils, and watercolor. His subject matter deals with wildlife, Native Americans, and the American cowboy.
His credits consist of being in the top one hundred Arts for the Parks nominees in 1996. He is featured in a Northlight publication book entitled, The Best of Wildlife Art. His works are included in the Air Force art collection and the Will Rogers Museum in Oklahoma.
He has won awards at the George Phippen show, in Prescott, AZ., the western art Roundup, in Winnemucca, Nev. He has exhibited at the Los Angeles Society of Illustrators show and the Los Angeles Museum of Science and Industry, as well as the Scottsdale artists School (The Best and the Brightest Show).
He has authored many articles on subjects ranging from medicine, religion, and art, Two of his pieces were published by Southwest Art Magazine.
His philosophy of art is simple, work hard, study the basics and keep in mind this little pearl, "There is no short cut to excellence."
